The conveyor drum is the power core and transmission key component of a belt conveyor. Its main function is to transmit power, support the conveyor belt, change the direction of the conveyor belt, and directly determine the operating efficiency and stability of the conveyor. It is widely suitable for light and heavy conveyor systems in industries such as mining, coal, metallurgy, grain, and building materials.
Core Categories and Functions
Drive drum
As the power output component of the conveyor, it is connected to power devices such as motors and reducers, and drives the entire conveyor belt to operate through the friction between the drum surface and the conveyor belt. To improve its anti slip performance, its surface is usually treated with rubber or polyurethane coating, which can effectively increase the friction coefficient, prevent the conveyor belt from slipping, and adapt to high load and long-distance conveying scenarios.
Deflection roller
Also known as a guide drum, it is non powered and mainly used to change the direction of the conveyor belt or tighten the conveyor belt to adjust its tension. According to the layout requirements of the conveyor, it can be designed in different forms such as head direction change, tail direction change, vertical direction change, etc., to help optimize the spatial structure of the equipment and adapt to various conveying paths such as horizontal, inclined, and turning.
Also known as the return drum, it is installed in the return section of the conveyor belt to support the conveyor belt, reduce running resistance, minimize belt sagging and wear, and ensure smooth operation of the unloaded section of the conveyor. It is commonly used as an auxiliary support for light and medium-sized conveyors.
Material and Craftsmanship
Main material: Q235 carbon steel is selected for conventional working conditions, which has the advantages of high strength and high cost-effectiveness; Wet and corrosive conditions can be upgraded to 304/316 stainless steel to enhance corrosion resistance.
Surface treatment: The surface of the carbon steel drum can be treated with hot-dip galvanizing and spray coating to prevent corrosion; The driving drum adopts rubber coating technology to enhance its anti slip and wear-resistant performance.
Processing technology: Precision welding and dynamic balance correction techniques are used to ensure smooth rotation of the drum, low operating noise, and long service life.
Core strengths
It has the characteristics of strong load-bearing capacity, low rotational resistance, wear resistance and corrosion resistance, and stable operation. It can customize the size according to parameters such as conveyor belt width, conveying speed, and load weight, and adapt to different specifications of conveyor models. It is the core component to ensure the efficient operation of the conveyor system.
Drum is a highly versatile cylindrical transmission/support component in industrial equipment, with core uses centered around power transmission, material conveying, directional guidance, and support buffering. Different types of drums have their own specific applications in conveyor, mining, logistics, printing, and other fields, classified as follows:
Drive drum (Active drum)
Core use: As the power output core of the conveyor, it is driven by a motor to rotate and use friction to drive the conveyor belt or transmission belt to operate, directly determining the operating speed and load-bearing capacity of the conveyor system.
Applicable scenarios: mining belt conveyors, port bulk material conveyors, and large-scale production line conveying equipment.
Reversing drum (driven drum)
Core application: Change the running direction of the conveyor belt, extend the wrap angle between the conveyor belt and the driving drum, increase the transmission friction, and prevent the conveyor belt from slipping; Partial redirection rollers can also be used in conjunction with tensioning devices to adjust the tension of the conveyor belt.
Applicable scenarios: The head, tail, and winding sections of a conveyor, such as the turning point of a belt conveyor in a sand and gravel production line.
Roller type drum
Bearing roller: supports the weight of the conveyor belt and the materials above it, reduces the running resistance of the conveyor belt, and ensures smooth transportation. It is the most commonly used type of roller in belt conveyors.
Return idler: supports the empty section (return section) of the conveyor belt to prevent sagging and deviation, and extends the service life of the conveyor belt.
Buffer roller: installed at the feeding point of the conveyor to buffer the impact force of falling materials and prevent the conveyor belt from being damaged by materials. It is commonly used in heavy-duty conveyors in the mining and coal industries.
Self aligning idler: Real time correction of conveyor belt deviation issues, ensuring that the conveyor belt always runs in the center position and reducing equipment failure rates.
Tensioning drum
Core use: Adjust the tension of the conveyor belt to maintain sufficient friction between the conveyor belt and the drive drum, preventing slipping; Simultaneously compensate for the length changes of the conveyor belt caused by stretching.
Applicable scenarios: Tensioning devices for various types of belt conveyors.
Other special purpose rollers
Rubber coated drum: The surface of the drum is covered with a rubber layer to enhance friction and wear resistance, and is commonly used in high load and slip prone conveying scenarios.
Electric drum: Integrating the motor, reducer, and drum into one, simplifying the structure of the conveyor, it is commonly used in small assembly lines and logistics sorting lines.
